This Is Fitzgerald United Methodist Church
The current motto of the United Methodist Church is “Open Hearts, Open Minds and Open Doors.” That describes the United Methodist congregation at Fitzgerald but we add that, in addition to open hearts, minds and doors, we are also people who are Learning and Practicing Our Faith, and that we have Room and Willingness to Grow.
Learning Our Faith: Our Sunday morning worship, which begins at 11 a.m. is solidly based in Christian tradition that goes back for centuries. We read from both the Old and New Testaments, and the sermon is almost always based on one of the texts for the day.
Sunday School: At present, we have Sunday School classes for children and adults. These begin at 9:45 a.m. and last approximately an hour. As attendance increases, classes will be added. In addition, there is usually a small group study in progress. These last about an hour and will be held at the church on Wednesday evenings at 7 p.m.
Practicing Our Faith: Believing that Christ’s sacrifice for us should move us to serve others, we will always be looking for ways to make our faith three-dimensional reality. On our way, this church has participated in United Methodist Volunteers in Mission Programs by building ramps for the handicapped in New Orleans, and by working on building a new church in Mexico. We also participate through special offerings and through the larger United Methodist Church in supporting other ministries of the church, such as the United Methodist Committee on Relief (disaster relief), the United Methodist Children’s Homes, and Africa University.
Social Activities: These are varied, and include a luncheon on the third Thursday of each month at the church. We hope to increase these type things.
Room and Willingness to Grow: We have space and some resources for more classes and activities, and for modern as well as traditional worship formats. Visit us, and see if this may be the church for you. Bring your time and talents, and let’s grow in the Lord together.
